Hm, I checked out some other eagles, you might be right....

But a friend of mine says, eagles like these exist and this might be good...

        Hmm, other opinions?

I would agree Although someone has spent some time and effort in construction of this piece, I do not like the embroidery which resembles other reproductions observed. In addition, the backing appear to be an off color in being considerably darker than the typical green used by the polizei.

Although the value of my opinion may be debatable, I'm afraid I must agree with the others and opine that this is a reproduction.

I will admit that this is the nicest hand embroidered NCO eagle I have seen to date. Whomever made it is a skilled embroiderer, however; there is NO evidence of these ever having been used during the period. Cheap machine embroidered eagles were available from the onset of the uniform regulations specifying wearing of a sleeve eagle so there is really no reason for such an eagle to exist.

Indeed there ARE hand embroidered thread OFFICER'S eagles, but in all of my years of being an eagle collector I have never seen a hand embroidered NCO eagle that I thought might be authentic. Yours is by far the finest I have seen, but think for a second. All those loose detail threads would snag and tear in regular use. This eagle is mint. Hand embroidered officer's eagles usually display damage to these threads as a comparison. The lack of any wear is highly suspect, as is the backing material. It seems that it may be a wool piece cut from a post war garment, although I cannot say for sure due to monitor variations in color display.

Of course I cannot totally discount the existence of such an eagle. I have seen so many "variations" from the norm that I cannot say with any degree of certainty that such an eagle was NEVER produced during the NS-zeit. If someone wanted a hand made piece I suppose his wife could have made one, but I really can't imagine these being produced in bulk, just too much work involved to make a profit, besides the requirement of having skilled embroiderers to do the work.

I suspect that this is a Pakistani, of Chinese example, but that is total supposition on my part.

              Thanks for your opinions!

Well it seems better to keep the hands off this eagle..
Sad, Detmold is a town next to the town which I live in.

Hello Bill I must disagree with you on the second part of your message. We must not forget the manufacturers samples which where more often than not hand embroidered, so it would stand to reason that some hand embroidered other ranks eagles do in fact exist. As an example I will post my one and only hand embroidered eagle which I believe to be of period production and the only one I have ever seen to appear in a format that we know exists.

That said I do believe that the gend eagle that appears in the first instance is a reproduction.
