Is the maker on the front under the flap with perhaps a 1938 date?

No nothing,no date or factory stamps.
Only a little ink stamp with the number 29.

No problem. I am just curious if it is a police acceptance stamp and why the manufacturer/date was missing. I have six or seven police flare pistol holsters dated from 1936-1942 and they are all maker marked and dated. Perhaps it is not for police use.

Yes,I was also suprised when I got it in my hands.
But the holster is original pre 40 period and the acceptstamp is absolute police.
The holster is in a worn condition,so the police stamp has some fade away.

I had no doubts it was period holster, just the lack of complete police acceptance struck me. But I have seen some small caliber holsters with just the police style eagle and lacking the B. The serial number would for a 1938 dated Erma police flare pistol.

Six or seven examples, no wonders I can not find a single example! Actually I've never seen a polizei accepted flare pistol other than posted images here

Joe, this brings up the big question...are all of these holster black and for Schupo or was there possibly a brown issued to the Gendarmerie? Sorry but you know I have a one track mind.

Oh Dave, you do have a one track mind. And you know the answer. This example is of one of the first of the Erma police LP contract that featured a "P" prefix to the serial number.

Signalman has many more holsters than I, as do other collectors. And I just saw a wonderful example of a brown gas gun holster that turned up in Germany. The first seen in brown.

Joe, many thanks for confirming my question and posting that wonderful example Seems like I've seen so very few polizei accepted flare pistols and now to know there are examples like the one you posted and in brown holsters for the Gendarmerie...icing on the cake! Yet another item to add to my growing list to hunt for!

So I have to look for a 1938 dated Erma police flare pistol.
With the ,,p,, in the beginning of the serialnumber.
Are these police guns also stamped with the police accepting stamps?

No, the P prefix was only used on about the first 500 pistols. Then just the serial number appeared. Just a few hundred more were made in 1937. The contract really kicked in with 1938 and a couple thousand were made. The police acceptance appeared on the left rear side, as it does in this early 1937 model.
