    Opinions on Police Cap Eagles

    Hello Gents,

Took a chance and picked up these 3 Police cap eagles at a coin shop, of all places. Before I eStand, wanted to get opinions on authenticity. They look period made, and do not seem to glow under UV.

    Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Unfortunately these are well documented reproductions. The key is the diamond shaped device at the bottom of the wreath.

Thanks for your input, Schupo. It doesn't look promising.

However, I'd love to get some additional input, as the original roll that they came off of seemed remarkably convincing, even down to a few flaws in one or two of the eagles, and the way that two long pieces of the roll were hand stiched together to make one continuous roll. (see photo, very end of roll, which shows hand stiches where this section was joined to another section, which is not in photo, but which the coin dealer cut in two right in front of me.)

Thanks guys. I don't have much in them, and I'll be able to return them.

I was purusing the thread that Dave recommended, and just out of curiosity, how does one explain the fact that RobertE purchased this exact style eagle, 13 of them as he says, from a US WWII vet?

Coming from a vet estate carries some weight, but it's not conclusive enough to accept a eagle type that's been condemned as a fake for decades into the "good" circle.

Court's still out on this one. We are still waiting for more evidence. doesn't help you much on your decision to keep the strip of them or return them, I'm afraid.

              regards, Robert

Thanks, Robert. Good input. I can't say that I vet purchased these guys myself, nor did the coin dealer say that either (I'm not sure where he got them). If I had got them straight from a vet, I'd put up a more spirited "defense."

                Cheers.
