This is an interesting shako to me since it appears so well constructed in ever aspect and comparable to authentic Reich examples but it has one big difference that puzzles me...the thin piece of material that goes around the seam where the body of the shako is connected to the visors. In this case, the piece in question appears to be a plastic and not leather like seen on others I own which happen to be 1942 or older. I've heard of integration of plastics into headgear, although unaware of the extent of use and I've always considered the Hans Romer shako label to be of war time manufacturer. Unfortunately, there are no marking on or under the lining other than a "55" for size and for for the pristine appearance I'd assume it was not used and perhaps not issued and Po accepted. So the big question I keep asking myself if it's period made with a change in materials used in manufacturing or is it a postwar example with an applied Romer label? Also, has anyone else ever seen any period examples like I mentioned above and pictured below with a plastic ban in lieu of leather?
