Hello Under the scales is a leather belt not cloth, but there is a little elastic band.

Gerd, do you think the cloth and scales are not original? Weren't there officer shakos in the post war period? Radecke shows some in his book on shakos. I would think that would be a lot of difficult work just to fit the cloth on the shako body.

Joe, the cloth has been added later, I´m pretty sure about. Take a look at the vent holes and the upper border of the cloth (see pic). Difficult work? Yes, but there are some Police collector artists who would do this without thinking more than a second about ..... just to have one in their collections.
Btw, there were Vulcanfiber Pickelhauben before 1920, but Vulcanfiber-shakos for Police not before 1926 (which are complete different).

However, at least it is no Weimar area helmet and no Stettin officer!

Right, there were Officer shakos post war. Niedersachsen, Berlin, Nordhrein-Westfalen, Bremen, Schleswig Holstein and Hamburg had them. Niedersachsen, Berlin and Nordrhein-Westfalen had black cloth or black velvet attached. All Berlin and a few Niedersachsen had shakos with silk liners.

There were round about 60+ Stettin (or Stettin linked) stars found in the late 70ties by S. Stephan (a German dealer). Not one after that time! Not one ever attached to a shako, not one ever found on a period picture. At least 3 Stettin shakos were for sale in the last 2 month on eBay!! Not one of these was close to any possible original set-up (if there ever was one).

Is the cloth original attached or not.................take a close look under the star and you should find such professional fitting for the plume (this one shows only some use, nothing messed with)!!

However, the Stettin shako in question shows post war body (post 1945!!) and parts.

I can't remember when I purchased mine. My records show four stars purchased in 1990 from Peterson and I listed one as Mecklenburg. Perhaps that was the one.

I got my first 1982 (it was my 2nd shako emblem ) and purchased it by S. Stephan! Must have a paper photo somewhere.................
