Wonderful photos of the Saxon police in pre-III Reich Kepis and uniform. Do you know where their dog school was located?

Thankx for the compliment - unfortunately, I do not know where the Saxon Police Hundefuhrer School was located....FYI, both these photos are dated 1934. The album goes to 1942, with the Police Hundefuhrer serving in Belgium and later in Russia with an (unfortunately unidentified) Police Battalion.

Reminds me of my dog course many moons ago.

These dogs look beautiful when lined up on "parade" like this, but just try taking that first step into their kennel on day one!!

*** Note the various buildings in the background (not just the one in the foreground) - in all probability, these photos were not taken at the official Hundefuhrer School of the Saxon Police, but a remotely located (note the trees and fence line in the background of the first photo) factory or farm of some type rented out by the Saxon Police for Hundefuhrer training (a common practice then and now by Police Forces world-wide).

I searched my notes and found the Saxon Dog Training School was located in Dresden.

Checking with the SHAEF book The German Police, we find that the III Reich police maintained an Abrichteanstalt (Hundewesen) located in Dresden. It is most probably the same school facility and location.

Thank you for that information JoeW.....while I have a fair amount of information and knowledge in regards to Hundefuhrer Schools of the Wehrmacht and SS, Police Hundefuhrer Schools I admittedly have little information (and much less knowledge) on.

Do you know if the Dresden Hundefuhrer School was the national training School for "advanced" training or one of the various "entry level" provincial Schools ??? I would be especially pleased if those two photos were indeed taken at an official Police Hundefuhrer School, and not a rented (or temporary) facility....any further information (e.g. date of establishment, operational dates, etc) you can provide on this Dresden Hundefuhrer School would be very much appreciated....

In 1938, the police dog schools of the five major Weimar era state police departments were in service training handlers and providing animals: Prussian-Gruenheide, Sachsen-Abrichteanstalt Dresden, Bayern- Muenchen, Wuerttemburg- Stuttgart and Bade-Karlsruhe.

The main training establishment was the Staatl. Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt fur das Pol.-Diensthundwesen Gruenheide in der Mark.

Excellent information JoeW, I very much appreciate you taking the time and effort looking up, and posting, this info.....

I have to check again, but I believe that both of the above photos were indeed taken in 1934. If you have any Police Hunde information previous to 1938, or could point me in the right direction in regards to where I could obtain such information myself, please do let me know...

Scanning my files of Ministerialblatter, I find 1937 was the beginning of the reorganization of the various state police dog facilities. It occurred approximately a year after the unification of these state police forces under the national control of the SS. In March 1937, Major d. Schutzpolizei Rudolf Belleville, a 47 year old police officer from Bavaria, assumed leadership of the Staatliche Lehr-und Versuchsanstalt fur das Polizeidiensthundwesen Gruenheide in der Mark.
