    Hello,

This is a tough eagle for me. It is very well made but has some really off characteristics most associated with reproductions. The small "loops" at the ends of the acorns, the "shiny" beak, the horizontal winglet threads, black outlined eye, poorly outlined swastika, and lack of an "X" at the bottom of the wreath are all things I do NOT want to see on a real eagle. Each alone is not damning, but all together they give me pause.

The fact that the tinsel along the top of the leaves has not worn is also odd considering how frayed the backing cloth is. This tinsel is always the first part of an eagle to be damaged and is missing from most since it is so easy to "catch" and tear during normal use. This eagle shows NO damage suggesting never having been used, VERY careful storage for 60 years, or recent manufacture.

That said, it looks pretty good. These were all handmade and everyone is different. Could this be good.....YES.............. but with all of the above noted points I would personally be a bit scared away.

Market value for a good, nearly mint officer's eagle is around $3-350 these days I guess.

From past experience of the difficulties in photographing police officer grade bullion insignia, I’d say there are a lot of details that we are not seeing clearly in these photos. The frayed edged of the backing appears to be loose stitching from application and subsequent removal and there also appears to be some breaks in the tinsel on top of the wreath but difficult to see in these photos. Also, I’d say the "shiny" beak is more due to light source coming in over the left wing as we look at it. There are many characteristics I personally find comparable and consistent with period insignia including some of the “off characteristics” Bill mentions, which generally come in a different combinations. So, I’d also say this looks pretty good and I am leaning more towards authentic BUT better photos and from a couple of angles would help.

Guess I’m not as generous towards value, or more like what one would receive in a reasonable amount of time to sell, of these yet.
