Help needed on Police Bayonets

Hello Gentlemen,

I just acquired two wonderful Police bayonets. One is the longer variety, approx.19.5 inches long measured in the scabbard and a short bayonet, 16.5 inches measured in the scabbard.

There are some very interesting points on each dagger. Who do we consider our Police Dagger expert? I have several questions for him.

There are several collectors here that can probably help you with your questions, so you need to post them if you want help. Also, have you tried running a search for past informative threads? This is a topic that has been frequently touched upon(see below link). Another good place to seach is the Daggers and Edged Weapons Forum for past threads.

Ah Vince, you bought an example of the "Extra Polizei Seitengewehr" on the left and the standard "Polizei Seitengewehr" on the right. The "Extra" model was a commercial piece permitted to be privately purchased for wear off duty if meeting size qualitifcations. I see that yours was an earlier model that originally had the shell guard but removed.

I see your standard size bayonet has the mortice lock for rifle mount. These are not often seen. It indicated issue to one of the Prussian Bereitschaftpolizei Hundertschaften (riot companies) according to the Prussian orders authorizing the issue of the bayonet in 1929. Yours was reworked during the 1938/39 period to its present configuration. What are the matching property markings?
