They used basically everything they could lay their hands on.
Trucks, 3-door cars, 5-door cars, open-tops, closed-tops, motorcycles, tanks, armoured cars,..etc

Yep, I would agree with above...everything was used as evidenced in period photos.

For traffic/autobahn, did they use flashing red lites and sirens of any sort as in the USA?

They used generally blue (search)lights. Color of cars was (dark) green,
lettering white.
As firefighters were so-called Hilfspolizei, they used lights etc. of the same color as Polizei.
