White paper backing as opposed to the more common black... I love to find insignia with signs of uniform removal and I prefer this to the mint unissued type, but thats just me.

        Hello Bill,

Yes, a Big Congrats on the Water Police Officer! Is it possible to see a full shot of it? I also appreciate your time and effort to try to educate us who are less experienced in bird collecting. I love Officer eagles for the very reason you mentioned, each one is a work of art, some rate masterpiece and some less!

        Cheers,
        Vince

          Can it be done?

          HI Marcus,

By chance do you have a photo of the replaced eagle sewn to your Police tunic's sleeve? Looking at ALL of the Police Eagles I have on all of my tunics I wonder who could reproduce that type of sewing job today???

There are well over 100 stitches on this one bird alone. All are hand sewn not machine sewn. You would need to find either an out of work surgeon or some one who would charge $1.00 per stitch to get this quality and such dedicated stitching reproduced today!

Which route did you go! I would appreciate anyone else to chime in here as well. How do we find some one to do this type of work in todays society?

          Happy Hunting,
          Vince

Even though a few eagles have now changed hands, this past thread on officer grade eagles is still a good study.

              Hi Vince,

I agree with you, the workmanship of the person who sewned these to the tunics is impeccable. For that reason, and the fact that I have too many other projects going on,
I have yet to have my replacement eagle sewn to the tunic. I still would like to acquire
some pre-1945 thread first and then find just the right person to perhaps follow the same
pattern of holes. A difficult task, but in time I'm sure it can be done.

              Rgds,

              Marcus
