    Dr Fritz Todt Badge

    Reverse.

Note the style of the numbers! This particular badge is made of aluminium and then coated with copper before silvering.

For whatever it is worth, Foreman depicts the same gold badge in his books.

          Dr Fritz Todt Badge

          Jon-Olav,

The Gold version you have would be worth €5000 if it was real. DN values these at a much lower price but the last Silver one sold at auction for €4000 only two years ago.

          Matovsky,

You have a good point that the numbers on the one Forman shows in his reference book are similar to the one at the start of this thread. However, that is the only thing in it's favour. I remember AF selling that badge in 1994 for £3500 and it was light-weight award type with "Dr.Ing Fritz Todt Preis" on the obverse and not simply "Dr.Fritz Todt" which is how the private purchase version is as well as the copies.

Just talked to Detlev Niemann about this badge. He could not tell me if it was genuine or not without seeing it in person, but he told me that it was possible that this verson was Numbered and not only the Dr. Ing fritz Todt Preis.

I have such a badge in similar case. The quality is higher than that shown. I would have to concure wit DN that these were presented, again a slight varriation on awarded. In the case of that which I have the number stamping is much higher, as is the number. The high grade burnishing of the high points is a leader to origanality as is the age pattenier. Thus I would tend to say original. However, such pieces are for the advanced collector. A point of interest is the Coburg badge, the award type, the RZM form and you have the silver form. If the latter showed its face now, the cry would be fantersy.

                Dr Fritz Todt Badge

Andreas Thies had a similar award for sale at auction in December 2006 priced at €1500 and it did not sell.

Last month an American auction house had one for sale at $750 and the last time I looked it remained unsold.

It therefore begs the questions that when collectors are prepared to shell out €4000 for these badges why have they missed the bargains which have been around?

I stand by my earlier statement that the badge shown is a fake.

At any rate the gold has signs of a modern plating.
