    Hello,

In my most humble opinion, I'm afraid that the three colored eagles are reproductions. The machine woven gray eagle is probably good.

I'd have to agree with Bill on those three eagles being bad and the BEVO being probably good. Bill, would you possibly think these are being replicated from a good pattern? Oh heck, I guess anything is possible... Seriously, that red/carmine(?) example could be scary if presented separate from the other two that I feel are far more identifiable as reproduction due to the backing/base material used. The identical construction seen on the reverse certainly relates them all together, which was some interesting detail to see.

        Dear Dave,

Unfortunately, in the age of computer assisted embroidery ANYTHING can be copied, and if some effort is put into materials and the technical aspects of the actual embroidery "PERFECT"copies are indeed possible. Fortunately, most makers take shortcuts and end up using off the wall colors like that tan which is our only hint at this pattern being a repro.

These three are clearly from the same source as the backs have the same reinforcing material which is uncommon on period eagles to begin with. Ther ed oval is the nicest of the three, and appears to be executed ona piece of overcoat wool, but this pattern just doesn't make it for me. Execution is excellent, but the design itself is off putting to me for reasons that I would rather not discussopenly.

As always I could certainly be wrong. I generally do not offer opinion unless I can say that I have found the same pattern offered as a repro somewhere, but in this case I just have a bad impression of the design. That coupled with the totally off colors of the other eagles points strongly towards the whole of the lot being bad.

        Regards,
        Bill Unland
