    Opinions on Werkfeuerwehr Bullion Patch

    Hello Guys,
Not my area so I'm asking for a little help from those in the know.
I picked this patch up in a grouping and like to know your thoughts on anything you care to share.

All opinions welcome and appreciated. - Thanks!

Here is was beating my head on the desk trying to remember why this looked familiar and I just found it again on that other forum!

Can't say that I like this one for various reasons, the biggest being the use of black thread on the wings to create the feather effect when it should be constructed with three feathers of bullion (see below linked thread).

Perhaps Bill U. might be lurking and able to better identify this example...are you out there Bill??? He spends more time staring at & studying these than anyone else I know!

        Hello,

In my most humble opinion I believe that this eagle is a reproduction. Although the bullion work is not bad there are some "shortcuts" taken typical of recent work. The black detail threads are definitely NOT typical of period produced officer's eagles, but are found on recently produced fakes.

At first I thought that the black threads might have been added to "repair" a good eagle that had had it's details worn off, as they do stand in front of the other bullion and are often damaged or missing. BUT the backing is original to the piece as evidenced by the wear behind the lettering and wings caused by the "passing" wire used to execute these details being thicker than the threads holding the bullion "purl" making up the remainder of the eagle, creating high spots that would wear faster.

All of this said the werkfeuerwehr were notorious for using insignia of their own design and manufacture so without a hands on examination I cannot go any further than to offer this most superficial, and subjective opinion.

        Regards,
        W.Unland

To reinforce Bill's point, here's and example (buried in the thread, I'm afraid) of what the proper wing detail for this type of eagle should look like - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=bullion .

            Bill,

I totally agree with you! The bullion is not bad at all, although not the best either. Unfortunately there are superior reproductions making it difficult to assess some insignia from only photos.

            Robert,

Thanks for bringing that thread up again, it's great and I nearly forgot all about it!

It's a Fake. Original Badges for a Captains have no Names of the City/Werkfeuerwehr on the Badge

Doch originale Adler haben Werkfeuerwehr darüber stehen.

Is that so. Well, there is period pictorial evidence that says otherwise. In the past we have had members here and or at another forum post pictures of the bullion Werkfeuerwehr insignia in wear. Perhaps there is some confusion with normal OrPo bullion insignia for officers that was without any sort of location name but these are for the factory guys.
