Opinions needed on luftshutz

I have come across this medal and I think it is genuine, but would welcome opinions on this. It is not in the best of condition as can be seen from the photographs and I wonder how much this would affect the value and is it worth trying to clean it up a bit.

I should also state that no makers' marks are present on the ring.

looks like a nice original, seems to be zinc, is it a heavy piece? i would leave it alone and not clean it, but thats only me! -Nigel

Thanks Nigel. It might be heavyish, but I don't have it here to handle at the moment, so difficult to say right now.

I am with Nigel on this one. Don't clean and if you do only ever attempt if you know exactly what you are doing. Cleaning can actually end up with an item of lower value than in the uncleaned state. Not to mention that cleaning for the different types of material differs.
