    Police Buckle Thread!!!

For those interested in police buckles, there is a good thread in the buckles forum. Just follow the below link.

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=319092

This happens to be one police uniform accessory item that I find difficulty resisting when it comes to those various makers of other ranks...

I think you have intimidated everyone with that display of Fire Power!

Maybe you could show a few highlights individually?

Dave, nice collection! What is the bottom right gold buckle with the silver pebbled center?

No intimidation intended, just showing another obsession! Think I need to get help...but that seems to only come in the forum of finding makers I don't already have, which are still many!

Tony, that lower right one is a denazified WSP example. It along with several others from my collection are better photographed and posted in the linked thread above.

          Dave,

In the attached thread I noticed the incredible land police buckle posted by KC1, As far as regular rectangular issue buckles go I would challenge anyone to show me a more impressive design. Absolute Beauty.

I am not a buckle guy but have recently gained interest in fire and rail related goodies. I don't see an obvious difference in one of the fire police buckles and the common police buckles. Water police seem similar are they they Gold Gilted version of same design?

            Eric,

I would fully agree with you about the LaPo buckles being one of the most impressive designs. Unfortunately I've not been able to add one since the price on those, when you find one, is rather lofty...for just one, a collector will be able to add multiple ordinary police buckles to their collection!

Briefly In regard to other ranks box buckles, matte silver/aluminum was worn by common police branches, gilt was worn by the traffic and water police, and the fire protection police worn a burnish example (see below).

Hi-revr, the LAPO buckles are truly an impressive police buckle. But we can't find any evidence that they were ever issued.

Here are two oddities. Feldgrau finish standard NCO and Offiz. Sorry, I forgot to photo the reverse. I will do so. They came from the collection of Wm Hartman. one of the first Americans to reach the buckle factories in the 1950s.

Joe, nice show on the feldgrau police buckles! I forgot to mention that color in my previous comments. Certainly no room to improve on condition of those amazing examples! Very, very nice!

Sounds like we are in search of a picture with a land po buckle.

Good luck. That's why the examples we have seem all unissued. They were brought back before and after the war from Assmann storage. The LAPO never got beyond sharing the buckle of the respective Laender. Though there is a mention in a RdErl of an anticipated change, the transfer of LAPO units to the Wehrmacht in 1935/36 precluded the need for their own buckle.

The gilt finish is pretty much oxidized from the brass base buckle, but there is some remaining in the reverse of the eagle/wreath.

Here is the reverse of the Feldgrau buckles. There is also an example of the LAPO with Feldgrau finish out there.

I appreciate the update......So these are legit somewhat it seems. Are there a bunch of repro's of these too?

Just for fun...............................This could have been an awesome two-piece buckle done with a high polished brass back-round and frosted silver eagle. If I ever get sent back in time I'll put that idea in Assmann's suggestion box.

Joe, those are all some very impressive buckles you have! The condition on those feldgrau examples are the best!!! Did you receive any others from the hartman collection?

Walt traded me the Feldgrau examples years ago. I can't recall if any repro LAPO buckles have been reported.
