    Railway eagle for discussion

Greetings: I am going to be putting this railway eagle for sale on e-stand, but not being "up" on eagles am putting it up for disussion before I do so. Knowing that these are heavily repo'd, I would like to verify it's authenticity before selling it. Thank you for your opinions and comments.
    Regards
    Zeke

Greetings Vid: Thank you for your reply and confirmation of authenticity. Being I have handled only a couple of these eagles ...but considering it's source and quality.... I thought it had to be good, but it's always responsible to have the stamp of approval from well versed authorities. After reading your responses to postings of other railroad eagles it is obvious of your knowledge and expertise in this field. Thanks for sharing

not an expert by any means, please let me be clear. but shouldnt the studs on the reverse be threaded, to accommodate the nuts?

i am not challenging colleague Kris' assessment, as I too am familiar with his credentials. however i was under the impression that the generic studs were a quality commonly found in repro's..

You wouldn't see the threads if they were sawed off as it appears on this one.

Actually these posts would have been milled down and tapped, many are found like this. The fakes have not really shown themselves in this manner that I am aware of, on the contrary it would be customary to try and fluff a stud configuration as most of the fakes are cast without the studs at all. At least that is what has been my experience. Of course the fakers change their game so the overall bird needs to be scrutinized in many cases. But this is not uncommon to find.

                      Best,

                      Kris

Exactly--this one may never have been used. The studs were integrally cast and were either tapped or threaded depending on the intended use of the eagle.
This one looks fine to me!

well, I thank the 3 of you, whose opinions I always value, for the correction!

Erich and Kris, a great observation, (about the eventual threading of the studs) and one that certainly seems valid.
