Looks like a Reichs Firebrigade Honor badge 2nd Class. Not sure if original or not.

        Tom,

I believe this is referred to as a 1st Klasse Feuerwehr award but the 2nd model, as distinguised by the gilt. The 2nd Klasse would be silver. Not sure if this is period or not, it looks a little too gold IMO, as compared to the others I have saved for reference. Not sure though, sorry.

you are right, the 1st pattern first class cross was slightly larger and pinback, then they changed the design to match the 2nd class, only the colors differed, hard to say if its ok or not, from the pics it looks promising, but as you said the gilding looks amazingly good!!

Would it be more believable if the guilding looked amazingly bad???

ha ha, i know what you mean, but its rare to find them in this condition, you would have thought it had been in its box all these years! the more i look at it , it seems fine, the enameling looks spot on!!

Funny you should say that. It came in a box, which I haven't yet seen, but will come with the cross if I decide to get it. The more I look at it, I just can't see how it could be bad. Or if is is, the fakers have really outdone themselves...

                  Tom,

Some of the comments I've read on the newer generation of these fakes pertain to the color of the enamel flames & the color of the gold on the frame. Some that have been alleged to be postwar have been noted to have a "golder" color than the period pieces & poor definition to the letters in the words. I don't know how to quantify yours with regard to the color aspect although I will say the lettering looks to be correct. I think it's wise to be cautious with these pieces but my fingers remain crossed as I'd love to see it be a period production piece.
