I can't speak for the cap, but from a distance the SS bullion eagle looks pretty bad.

Hello,

Judge's caps were similar to this but so were German clergy, without the eagle of course. The purple makes me think of clergy. I am not sure if judges had "rank" bands on their caps.

I have never seen an honest judges cap, only old photos so I can't really add much other than to agree that caution is called for. I agree the eagle is a funny looker.
