What a great portrait, Hundestaffel !!

Was going through the portraits, playing catch-up, and it got me thinking. Most portraits I have seen show 1 of 2 things: Either they depict NCO's / Officers with WW1 combat decorations or early period with sport badges.

I have seen 'non-portrait' images, with combat decorations being worn by officers, but cannot recall a portrait style one. I have seen dated awards in 1942, which wasn't that far into the war effort, so presumably some could have sat for portraits.

Or is it just me and I have unusually bad luck and just haven't seen any ?

The guys sitting for portraits are pre-war civil policemen and later older guys not called into the military working as civil policemen. I dare say that militarized police units didn't sit for photos like the civil guys did. Not as much opportunity or desire for same. I think we forget that most cops were cops, not soldiers. They were chasing pickpockets and thieves, not so much defending the fatherland or whatever.

My guess is that it is an SS dagger.

I'd second that thought of it being an SS dagger, especially with the presence of the portepee which appears to be tied in the prescribed manor and which authorized for wear by commissioned officers of the Waffen-SS. Great photo...any details wrote on the reverse?
Interested in the Gendarmerie - Schutzpolizei - Gemeinden - Feuerschutzpolizei - Wasserschutzpolizei - Etc. Looking For Anything Polizei Related!

Agreed - in all probability that is a SS Dagger, not SA (didn't quite think that comment / description through before posting )

There is (unfortunately) no writing on the reverse of the photo...
