Hard to follow the above, although how about a more simple portrait... This is one I recently received in a larger size of 18 cm x 13 cm that reflects a what appears to be a Wachtmeister in a feldbluse with subdued button in wear, simple ribbon bar device, nice scar on the nose.

Yes!

Such buttons had been used by all kind of Prussian officials (Police, Fire-Department, Customs, Railwayservice and and and). Silver or gold colored depend on the branch.
