Police Sports Award Cup and Pin

Just picked up this nice little grouping here in Germany. If anyone has more information about either item, I would appreciate hearing more about the history of these pieces. The cup is enscribed with 'Erinnerungsgabe des Kammeradschaftsbundes Deutscher Polizei Beamter' underneath is 'Sachs. Pol. Ski Ausscheidungswettkampfe 1939' and the next line is 'Ski-Streifenlauf'. So, I assume it was the top prize in a ski competition in 1939 among all police. The cup was produced by Wellner, who also produced a lot of special items for the Riechskanzlerei, so they must have been a fairly high quality firm.
Pin looks to be period as well, though it has no nazi markings on it.

Doug, the cup was a local award to the winner of the Saxon KDPB sponsored ski elimination contest of 1939 that determined the participants from there who would compete in the Deutsche Polizei Ski-Meisterschaft of 1939 held at Kitzbuehl March 1-5. Elimination contests were held across Germany to determine the contestants in the various German Police Championships. The winners of these championships received the Allach produced Erhrenpreis der RFSS und Chef der Deutschen Polizei plate. This is discussed in my recent article on the subject in Bender's "The Military Advisor".

Your badge is an early 1930s Bavarian Ski Fuhrer Abzeichen. I have had one in my collection for many years and yours is the first other I have seen.

Two very nice pieces for your collection.

                  Doug,

Two very nice ski goodies. I like police sports stuff and I have never seen the Bavarian LAPO badge before. Of course, the cup is neat too.

Doug, two more historically wonderful pieces for your collection! Very nice!!

Joe, would you know if the use of the pin was carried postwar? I seen the below on eBay a while back and it was listed as a postwar piece, not to say the seller could have easily been wrong. Also any thoughts to the name changes below the cat/Puma...place of event?

Dave, the panther (black) was the emblem of the pre-Nazi Bavarian LAPO. I am not aware that post war Bavarian police used any emblem other than the state colors. In addition, the use of the term Landespolizei denoted an actual branch of the Bavarian police then. In post WWII times, it was a term for all of the police of Land Bayern. So I think the badge is pre-WWII.

Vid, your plate was one of quite a few awarded to the various winners in the numerous ski contests in that 1939 German Police Ski Championship.

                            Joe,

Bender shipped out your reference on Friday so I should have it by Tuesday I hope. Quite a few? How many first place winners were there in 1939 at Kitzbuhel? were you able to track that number?.

I know I have tracked these plates for many years and its the only Ski award police plate I have seen.

                            Best,

                            Kris

Kris, according to my research and calculations, there were 64 presentations of plates at the 1939 German Police Ski Championship for 272 competitors. I don't have my notes with me right now, but that would come out to be about a dozen or a dozen and a half first place winners. It is explained in my article along with a photo of a presentation at one of the ski championships.
