    What is this patch?

It is not in very good condition, and is a bit out of shape.....I suppose for being damp at some point.........or something of that nature. Seems to be a dark blue backgound. What is it?

    Thanks,
    Ron

    Hello,

A very cool officer's 'BEVO" style machine woven eagle for use by Feuerwehr officers on their blue service uniforms. This is the first blue example I have seen.

In the early war years it was decided to do away with the color coded police sleeve eagles. A standardized machine woven eagle was to replace all of the multicolored embroidered eagles then in use. Three colors of enlisted eagle, gray on green, grey on black, and yellow on blue were produced.

A silver flatwire on green was produced for officer's use but never really put into use. Obviously a blue example was also made, which makes perfect sense.

These are sometimes called "combat eagles" by those wishing to make them sound a bit more sexy, but they were really just a standardized pattern to save cost and effort in production.

Here is the green example corresponding to yours.

    Regards,
    William Unland

Ron what a fantastic eagle I would love to buy this one off you, if it was up for sale, get in touch and maybe we can do a deal, Please can you send me a scan of the eagle to include in my book, my email is garychambers9@aol.com

This one also looks like the all silver woven version, as apposed to the one above posted by Bill with the two tone dull silver and bright silver. Here is a picture of an all silver on green that is owned by Bob Hritz
