The female ranks mirrored the male ones, only in the female grammatical gender (with the "-in" ending). The only male rank without a female equivalent was the Maschinenbetriebsleiter.
Rank designations and -insignia for female officials were:
- Hilfsaufseherin (blank collar patch, no cap cord*)
- Maschinistin (collar patch with 1 rosette, green cap cord flecked with gold)
- Oberwachtmeisterin (collar patch with 2 rosettes, green cap cord flecked with gold)
- Maschinenmeisterin (collar patch with 2 rosettes, green cap cord flecked with gold)
- Werkführerin (collar patch with cord + 2 rosettes, green/gold cap cord)
- Hauptwachtmeisterin (collar patch with cord + 3 rosettes, green/gold cap cord)
- Erste Maschinenmeisterin (collar patch with cord + chevron, green/gold cap cord)
- Erste Hauptwachtmeisterin (collar patch with cord + chevron, green/gold cap cord)
- Verwalterin (collar patch with cord + chevron + 1 rosette, green/gold cap cord)
- Werkmeisterin (collar patch with cord + chevron + 1 rosette, green/gold cap cord)
- Oberverwalterin (collar patch with cord + chevron + 2 rosettes, green/gold cap cord)
- Betriebsleiterin (collar patch with cord + chevron + 2 rosettes, green/gold cap cord)
*) "Proven and worthy" Hilfsaufseherinnen could successively be awarded the right to wear a silver rosette on the collar patch (after 2 years of service), the dark green cap cord (after 3 years) and gold collar patch piping (after 5 years)
Candidates wore the rank insignia of the entry-level rank they would hold after their training was succesfully completed, but with silver rather than gold rosettes.
