    Any Polizei Sahariana tropical tunics out there to share? Actual tunics or period pictures of such tunics worn by Polizei troops? Nick

    Seems like I remember some pictures floating around somewhere (I probably have some stashed). A quick search didn't find what I was thinking of although I did find this interesting thread:

      These pics just resurfaced in this new thread in the SS section with an argument about the true identification of these troops.
      Is it Polizei-SD-SiPo, or is it RFSS (Waffen SS Div)...
      My vote is SD or Polizei but just wearing SS summer uniforms...

              Combat Police

              I agree, the sahariana is not covered in Angolia & Taylor's Polizei book. I have 2 of such summer mottled light weight tunics, the standard Police hot weather uniform...
              I'm referring to "combat police" (not street cops, not SchutzPolizei or Gemeinde, verkehrsPolizei, OrdungsPolizei etc..)

              I'm talking about Polizei COMBAT Troops! Units like "Polizei-gebirgsjager Regiment 18" in Greece, Italy and "Polizei Regiment Bozen" in Italy. These were anti-partisan units and I believe I have pictures of such troops in Saharianas somewhere, but I might be wrong...I'm still digging...Nothing so far in Werner Regenberg's Pol-Pzr book... That's why I started this thread! Looking for examples!!!

              The hunt continues for other examples! Would like to see an example of a real one on this thread but that will probably not happen. Period pictures of Polizei Sahariana tunic examples are welcome!!!

              PPS:This is one of the units I'm talking about! (picture below!), Pol.GJ.Reg.18, here NOT shown in Sahariana tunics! Anybody?

                  Nick,

                  There is a picture of an officer wearing a sahariana on page 202 of the Munoz book "Hitler's Green Army (Vol2)." It identifies this Captain as a dog handler in Polizei Gebrigsjäger Rgt 18 and he does have an Edelweiss on his left sleeve. Interestingly, he is also wearing a tan AK style cap.

                  I have seen other photos of policemen wearing these jackets in hot climates but I suspect they were locally issued. I have also seen photos of them wearing sun helmets and shorts. I would love to see some of this stuff with police property markings if one exists.

                    YES that is the photo I saw a while back! I remember now!
                    Unfortunately I don't own that book (yet...). So no need to further tear up my library for it now! Thanks for confirming Schupo.

                      Okay Bill, you're getting technical with me. Well, if you are refering to civil cops, ie. the Revierpolizei and Gendarmerie within the Reich, I don't know of any instances of the Saharina being worn. Of course they would have no need. But the civil police units raised from the various Reich towns and sent to war like Pol Geb Jag 18 did wear the Saharina. Ernst has a photo of one on his site with bevo sleeve eagle. There are other photos out there, but it is not often seen. And I have only seen photos in collections of an SS Saharina, or one without insignia; never with police insignia. That would be beautiful to see and wonder how it survived.

                        Nick, is that image in your comment #7 from your collection or a book? I was curious about the headgear on the fellow with his back to the camera. Is that some type of a motorcyle helmet? Was the photo taken in Finnland when the 18th served in that theatre? I was particularly interested in the portly officer on the right who bears a resemblance in profile to Hans Dobek. Is there any photo taken in sequence that might show the front of his tunic?

                          The pictures in post 7 and 8 are originaly from an article on Rgt 18 in the French magazine "Militaria".
                          There is no caption to picture #7 in the magazine article.

                          Could the man with the back to the camera be a member of the Technische Nothilfe (TN).
                          I believe I have seen such shape "crash"helmets before that were from TN.

                            Of course Ernest is correct. Note that I did give the magazine credit when I posted these images and naming the source!
                            Anyway my take on that helmet (entire uniform actually) is that he is probably a local para-military or local police guide (or scout) aiding the Polizei forces. I don't see a reason why TeNo would be out in the field with Polizei cambat troops, especially if we're dealing with anti partisan operations, taking place I assume somewhere in the Balkans or Italy...                               The fellow looks like a tanker or a dispatch rider with a full jump suit, protective helmet and goggles. I thought the photos were from Finland with all the conifers in the background. I thought the Balkans or Italy would have more deciduous forests, but I guess there would have been large growths of pines in the Balkans. If it was there, then that isn't Dobek, as he had transfered to Pol Rgt Bozen by then.
