    Geheime Staatspolizei Disk

Comparing this one to some of the originals on Don Bibles site, there are a lot of similarities. I'm trying to prove it is a reproduction, but I can pick out any one characteristics that hints repro. The detail on the bird is actually much better than my camera allows, especially between the legs(not meant to be a joke). I recently bought a police tunic, and this is where this comes from. What are you thoughts. It is non magnetic

This disc could be mistaken for an original if only seen in a photo or scan, as the features are correct. It is a rather good casting from an original disc, and was sold as such about 16-18 years ago.
When examined in hand, it will be found ro be slightly undersize and of the wrong metal. The exact same piece can be seen pictured at the bottom of pages 36 and 37 in the "Common Fakes of the Gestapo Warrant Disc" chapter of my book "Third Reich Warrant Discs 1934-1945" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd in 2001.

Thanks for the reply. Certainly not a let down, as I had my doubts. Were originals also cast? Also, and idea of where this one originated out of?

        Thanks

The original discs were NOT cast. They were struck from highly detailed dies at the Prussian State Mint in Berlin, The detail of the originals was so good that even a lost wax casting from an unworn example comes out looking very good.

I believe that the example you have (number 9267) was made by a California collector who sold them for a few dollars. Near the same period of time a German collector was also producing them. That one is number 9843, and it too is cast from an original Gestapo disc, and also has correct features. Both were sold at the time as repros. I may have the locations reversed, as it has been a long time ago. I still have examples of both of them in my fake collection.

The metal in the repros is much softer than the original discs, allowing the chain holes to wear much quicker than on an original, if the repro is carried on a chain or key ring.
