    Visor cap Diplomat

    Bonjour,
    Cordialement.
    Michel

It is my first request on your site, I live in Belgium and I ask you to excuse me for the translation. I do not control English.
My request relates to this cap of diplomat.
    Is it good or false?
If it is good which is its value, could you give me an estimate?
    By thanking you in advance.
    Cordially.

I'm sorry- I don't believe either cap to be original. The quality is OK, but the materials and construction are a little off...

      Regards,
      Arran.

I am in total agreement with Arran. The insignia are reproduction and the hats are a far cry from the quality of an original cap-the diplomatic corp piece in particular. However, the cat hair on the diplomatic jat appear to be genuine

          Hello,
Seen well for the hairs of cat. :--))
If I compare this onehttp://www.germanmilitaria.com/Polit...os/N32550.html it seems to to me that mine is the best.
          Thank you for your answers

So "The Guild's" political visor cap (already sold) is possibly also a repro? Just wondering...as I honestly also don't see that much difference in "quality" between the two ...
Peter's cap even has a misfigured swazi.... and lacks the nice ventilation cockarde this visor has...That would have fooled me! But I'm a novice when it comes to authenticating
such pieces by a picture only... Its tricky but I am learning a lot on WAF. Keep those inquiries coming! Thanks Nick

Since this thread has garnered a little interest, I'll expound a bit on some of the differences between a real and a repro cap. Please feel free to correct any errors. While the quality of the embroidery on the repro that started this thread is quite good, the fact that it is genuine silver thread (plated, at least) would raise a red flag- this is far more commonly found on sixties and seventies fakes than original third Reich insignia. Aluminum embroidery would be the norm for this cap, possibly cello (more likely with "gold"). The mesh is far too coarse for an Erel vent. The band on this cap should be velvet, not wool. The mesh pattern of the aluminum piping is far too coarse, and the visor is typical of fakes- the raised rim is a little too defined, and the underside would usually have a fine checker pattern, and even if it didn't, the underside lacquer should be much thicker (not the thin brown "wash" we see here).
The inside is equally as telling, but I don't want to bore you with too many details, so suffice it to say that the sweatband stinks, and I've never seen ANYTHING called an Erel "Diplomat" that I considered to be authentic...

              Cheers,
              Arran.

Thanks for clearing that up Arran, yes I also noticed that the cockarde ventilation mesh was quite coarse, but learned something about bullion to watch out for! Its interesting that the Guild's political visor is described to also have a wool centerband and not velvet which is the norm per your explanation....So I checked Angolia's "In The Service of teh Reich" book and it states both materials could have been seen... so its not that inaccurate for a repro this cap... Too bad for the owner, the thumbs down verdict... but learnful! Nick

Sorry, but the Diplomat is definately bad/fake mal/fausse--I believe it is a 1960's repro--the SA probably is too, as it has a silk lining, and the eagle is too thin. I will post the Diplo on the headgear forum for reference purposes.
