Police Hat Emblem - real/fake

Is this hat emblem real or fake. I remember reading something about it and don't remember. It measures 43mm x 43mm, and is marked with the German for patient pend. Thank you for your assistance. Jim

That's one ugly fake. It's actually a fantasy badge, probably out of Poland.
