Po. Mach. Woven Eagles

These two examples of machine woven eagles are completely different. The example to the left has two tone rayon and aluminum. The example to the right is all aluminum. They appear to be made of the same pattern, on the same loom.

Hi Bill,
Interesting thread you started and great to see the amount of responce from those that are willing to post and share there fine examples here! Have to say, for a while I was wondering about all the roll cut examples until I had an acquisition from a Vet estate here in Colorado that included a few crumpled examples! I'll see if I can dig up a picture of the BeVo insignia in wear to actually post here instead of playing games. Anyway, below is a picture of the few examples I retain, unfortuantely no gray on black! (Darn, my lighting messed with the real color of the WSP)Attached FilesLast edited by Dave Cameron; 02-07-2007, 12:54 AM.Interested in the Gendarmerie - Schutzpolizei - Gemeinden - Feuerschutzpolizei - Wasserschutzpolizei - Etc. Bill,
Just to add some depth to the discussion, I do have a couple of field tunics with the machine sewn grey on green "bevo" eagles. I also have a couple of crumpled vet eagles (grey/green) just as Dave describes. I have one grey on black eagle that was sewn on and shows use but I have never seen a used gold on blue one that I recall. I don't recall any photos of either gold on blue or grey on black ones in wear, but it is hard to tell from B/W photos of course.
I will mention that there are two size variations that I have noticed with these grey on green bevo eagles. The standard one with the big head is just slightly larger than the variation with the smaller head if you put them side by side. Two different makers were involved in manufacturing these it seems.
A good discussion!

Police Armored Units
I was under the impression that the armored units wore the black wrap, but with the green shoulder & collar ranks and green piping. Following that, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume the use of the green eagle as well.
I wouldn't think they would use the black / grey version. I'm leaning towards Bill's line of thinking on this.

Bill,
I think that the gold on blue eagle could have been intended for wear by either the Wasserschutzpolizei or the Hafenpolizei and maybe the Kustenpolizei as well. I don't really disagree that the grey on black eagle might have been intended for wear by the Panzerpolizei or any other police unit wearing a black uniform. I think that if they went to the trouble to make a gold on blue eagle to match the WSP units they could have made a carmine (or grey) eagle on blue to match the much larger Feuerwehr. But, they might have intended for this eagle to be worn by the Feuerwehr I suppose. It just seems odd that with all the firemen still wearing the blue uniforms we don't see one of these eagles in wear in a photo by one of them.
I guess it really is all speculation at this point without any period documentation to go on. I will say that the grey on black eagles are certainly more scarce than the gold on blue eagles and these were both relatively small organizations. I don't know that they are really worth five times what a gold on blue eagle sells for or ten times what a grey on green eagle sells for but they seem to bring the price. We are in a funny hobby where rarity does not always translate to price.

hi bill
yea the words "ss" and "panzer" can do magical things
i am not sure why people reach for the "tip of the spear" in collecting ww2 German stuff.....thats face it with out the help and control of the police the TR would have gone nowhere fast
tanks are way cool so i understand why people are interested in that aspect of collecting and sure what i wouldn't give to have some "panzer police" stuff
i just don't get the ss stuff no of fence to anyone and not meaning to start a war but i just don't get the attraction of ss (police) stuff
