Yes indeed a nice "strassenbahn" (tram or light rail-local rail) uniform picture. I have a complete uniform like this, in dark blue but almost looks like charcoal grey. The pants are piped in pink, cap crown piping in pink as well as the cap band. My tunic has identical collar tab insignia with added rank pips on bright pink backing tabs. (in the picture it must be a different darker color). My cap however is an older "teller" shape 1930's design cap and badged slightly differently, but of course these uniforms varied in design and color per city (municipality)! Nick

Here it is! Click on the bottom link (which covers my collection) and view post #38 and post #184(partial view). Sorry that's all I have available right now, so no detail shots... but its in mint conditions! The entire perfectly matching ensemble was discovered in a closet in a German residence about 2 years ago and sold to me by a Dutch dealer (late 1930's tram conductor/operator's visor cap + pants + old "rock" tunic). The dealer thought it had to do with Reichsbahn... but its Strassenbahn of course! Nick

nick, very nice and interesting uniform! I'm very interested in the sleeve eagle. it seems larger than the standard lone reichsbahn eagle. can you tell me a little about it or maybe some close up pics. also do you know anything about the color of the tabs.
was there any regulations controlling area/collar designation. I just picked up some kleinbahn tabs of several different colors and can't find any reference to them.

also very nice collection over all! if you live in so cal we need to hook up.

Jim, my "waffenfarbe" (branch color) if you want to call it that is pink on my uniform as you can see, BUT because these light rail operations were either private ventures or municipality run, there are no clear "uniform" guidelines... as far as I know... So it varied per city, per operation. Often they had the city crest depicted on the buttons (mine are blank shiny) but there was some structure with the rank pips I understand. (or rather "pay scale" pips, not rank, these are civilian uniforms). Mine has 3 pips per collar next to the (tram)wheel with wings collar infignia. I'll see if I can take some close up pictures but the day after tomorrow I'm going on my Christmas holiday trip so it might not happen until January... Thanks for the compliments on my little museum. I will send you a PM so we can get together sometime down the road! Sound like fun! Thanks Nick

Stadtbahn / Privatbahn uniforms & insignia . . .

. . . were standardized according to the 05 / 1942 issue of Uniformenmarkt that I have.

Although the uniforms were not likely changed much due to wartime shortages new rank and cap badges were adopted. Also a series of sleeve specialty patches (Spartenabzeichen) were also adopted.

I may be able to copy the rank chart out of the issue and post it at some point.

Berlin used Green piping and shoulder boards of the Reichbahn pattern.

Wuppertal used lemon yellow piped Reichsbahn pattern insignia on their famous elevated railway.

Liepzig and Dresden also used Green I think.

This female tram (light rail) official is wearing on her breast pocket flap the RAD war volunteer insignia (Kriegshilfsdienst des RAD) which indicates she is a RAD member assigned to tram service.
