    I.D. Help on Shoulder Board.

Need some help identifying this Single shoulder board.

I believe I know the organization, but would rather hear what
    the forum members can ascertain.

    Thank You,
    Howard

        Howard,
I'd say the Diplomatic Corps, full dress uniform.

          Hello Garth,

Yes, I am of the same opinion. A similar board with Sliver underlay is photographed in the Angola book concerning the diplomatic service.

The basket weave construction of the cords is rather odd. I have never seen this type of construction on anything German. Then again, I've not had a hands on learning with many Diplomatic Corps boards or insignia. Maybe that's normal for such a high official?

Have any idea what eagle went on this board? I'm thinking gold.

Question is can I find the proper eagle? And should I attempt to restore the board to it's former splendor?

          Thanks for the response.

          Regards,
          Howard

            Howard,
I've not handled that much, actually very little, diplomatic insignia but I would guess most of it was custom order so I wouldn't worry about the different type of weave on the gold.
I don't have clue as to where to get a proper eagle for the board. The board doesn't look like it ever had one. Possibly it was never on a uniform. I'd probably just leave it alone.

Probably Diplomatic but just maybe . . .

. . . . . . Forestry Generals. That might explain the odd braid and lack of an eagle. Is this for sale Howard?

                Diane

                Hi Diane,

As you know everything has a price.

How did you arrive at Forestry General?

I know there are many errors in Angola's book "In the Service of the Reich," however a near identical piece is photographed on Page 104.

Only difference aside from the weave of the cords, is the silver tressing around the bottom of the board. He identifies this as the pattern worn on the greatcoat.

I know you're an excellent researcher, so please don't take this the wrong way.

Can you supply any material to confirm Forestry?

Splendid job on the RB General Director Collar tabs thread. Even Clyde Davis would be impressed! For the record he has also seen photos of this shoulder board.

So I am curious. As they say knock my socks off!

                Good to hear from you!

                All the best,
                Howard

P.S. Thinking about returning to the MAX show this year. Last attended in 2001, didn't think of ever returning after have a "disagreement" with Tom Wittmann, JR. Too bad I was wearing my service weapon, or he would have been on the deck! Anyway hope to see you at the show.

For sure it's not Forestry General, exept Goering they had only green ones.

                    Thanks!

Thanks to you all for the comments.

Does this mean I have to start collecting dipolomatic items?????

Just curious, but anyone know what value to assign to these boards? I really don't to enter another different area of German collectioning. If by chance I want to use these for trade some day..........

                    What are they worth?

                    Thanks Again,
                    Howard
