Daniele,

Look closely at the jacket and notice particularly the way the waist is attached and sewn. Many of these jackets have been manufactured post-war by cutting off regular original used tunics and re-tailoring them. Look for different thread used around the waist and for signs of a shortened tunic such as stitching for hip pockets or waist belt ramp holes. Also, check the size stamps and see if the short size is reflected in the size stamps.

One should always be very careful of these short tunics as they have been reworked in Europe for a long time.

Excuse my lack of experience because I only own one mid-war combat police tunic but... wouldn't the top pockets be pleated if this was a shortened tunic?

I am not saying that this is a shortened tunic as it would be difficult to tell without a hands on inspection. Typically, the breast pockets are replaced as the hip pockets are normally not pleated and there is sufficient material left over to make the waistband and pockets. These jackets, and so-called police green panzer jackets, are also sometimes found that are newly made from old material, typically from greatcoats. These are very convincing as they have actual wear and age to the material.

Just trying to give Daniele some points to look at in order to determine originality.
