HJ Eagle Discovery?

I was recently reading my new copy of David Littlejohn's book on the Hitler Youth and ran across an image of a metal eagle I've had in my collection for several years (at least I think I ran across an image of it).

Time for me to turn to you guys and gals to help confirm if this is indeed what I think it is.

Hi Ken, I have a similar eagle and was told that it was Postal workers when I showed it on the forum before. I had mistakenly thought it SA. I think that these styles of eagle had severals uses?

Thanks Adrian! It looks like our eagles are matches...It is definately confusing with some of them...I think it also looks like the HJ version as well. Always something to learn

Hi Lads, just stumbled on this thread, got 2 of these in my own collection, 1 silver, 1 a dull brown!!! and as said before I was lead to believe they were postal workers but I've got one of them as well an thats different again. the H/J along with other organisations of the third reich had strict regulations on what was /was not to be worn as a uniform/insgnia etc. But it is very noticeable that these regulations were not always adhered to and as Adrian mentioned these eaglea had a generic use, also i doubt if the average german trooper/political member/ H/J etc really would have known the difference as well as the fact that the easiest way to de-nazify a cap (in this case) was to remove the eagle.
Another factor may be that two eagles both facing left (as viewed ) though both silver in colour one is Postal, one is Tramways the only differenes is the sizes (48mm-37mm) if you had popped along to your local badge retailer to purchase one would you have know the difference ?? (let alone the storeman)

Also as seen in period photo`s these eagls are worn. but not allowed according to regulations so really only you as a collector can really decide to call it what you want with in reason.

This form of eagle was worn on headgear of various branches of the 3rd Reich government. It is available in two sizes, the larger in both silver and gilt finish. the smaller version seems to have some relationship with governmental educational institutions under the control of political organizations I have a political Bergmutze bearing the same aluminum eagle which is part of a complete uniform of a member of the Stellvanger d Fuhrersreichslager. I have also seen this eagle on a SA officer's bergmutze supposedly worn at the SA Leadership School in Munich.

Hello,

I'd like to start this thread once again. The reason for this is my eagle, shown on the attached picture. The item is ground dug, before cleaning, and for several days the eagle remained a total mystery for me. The eagle is 57 mm wide, alu-silver, RZM-marked, and its maker is M 1/78.

And now the most important note - I found this eagle amongst other small items which surely belonged to Hitlerjugend. There were numerous "diamond" enameled pins, remains of winter "kepi" caps and D-rings from these caps. A friend of mine found some HJ belt buckles and Leistungenabzeichen, too. No doubt the stuff was from HJ uniform magazine.

What's even more interesting, there were almost totally destroyed by time rests of something which surely was an Edelweiss sometime.

I would especially ask Ken1967 or anyone, to quote what D.Littlejohn writes on such kind of eagle in his book.

Michal, nice find and some interesting information!

I'm moving out of TR items now and sold the Littlejohn book about a year ago. Hopefully one of our members can look up the reference and note the text from the book. I would be curious to know.
