    Nazi Stechuhr/Security Guard Clock

I have no idea if this is the right forum to ask questions about this item or not an if the moderators can think of a better place, then please feel free to move it...this is a security guard’s check up clock (Stechuhr or punch clock)…I don’t know the proper name for it, but it is the kind of clock, where the security guard has to use a special key at certain points of his round to verify that he has actually been there…now what is so special about this one is that it comes with a real leather case, which has a swastika embossed into it, in fact the person I bought it from told me that he thought it was used by the Wachgruppe or Security Battalion stationed at the Reichskanzlei in Berlin…it comes with the full works and even still has the original roll of paper and ink paper with it…the lower part of the leather case has the maker mark and the year 1939 embossed into it. Nice clock in the front, part of the workings of the clock are built into the lower part of the leather case and everything appears to be complete and in good to very good condition. There are no keys with the clock. The clock and case weigh in at 3 ******189; pounds and the case has a diameter of 5 ******188;” and a height of 2 ******189;”.

Has anyone ever seen something like this before and where do you think it was used?? Cheers, Torsten.

    Torsten,

This is called a Watchman's Clock in the US. It is used here in the same manner as you describe its use in Germany. It could have been used at any facility to make certain that the security guards make their rounds properly and show proof of when a specific area was checked. These were undoubtably used by Werkschutz folks as well as other guards.
