    Fire Brigade 2nd Class

Hello.I want to know what everyone thinks of this cross.I've owned it for several years now.My question is did anyone ever see one without the umlaut over the U in Furver? It looks like it got worn away but I'm not sure.It was die struck. There is no rim on it.Any opinions welcome.Regards,Darrick

Do you think it's fake because of the color?Regards,Darrick

The letters are sloppy. As you pointed out, there is a missing umlaut, and the "-" after "ver" barely made it on the ring.

The jump ring isn't quite right either.

The tips of the longest part of the flames on each arm are too long and curve too much.

TerryG's shows what it is supposed to look like. Notice how sharp and defined the letters are.

                        Update request

In doing research on fire brigade items this thread raised some questions. I have not looked at very many so please do not take this in a negative way. There were a few things about this that made me wonder so I am asking for clarification because this thread is over three years old. Please respond to each of my questions/comments.

1)comparing the letters it appears that the one in question has a fair amount of wear that could account for appearance of sloppy letters.

2)comparing letters makes sense to me only if we are comparing two items from the same maker. I make the comparison of PAB's, if we judge originallity of unmarked badges solely on how good the tank looks it would seem kinda silly.

3)Relating to no 2 the flames in the badge in question look much better. The flames in the "original" are not filled all the way in. There are white areas in the flame licks and the flames themselves are not as nice looking. So I ask, are we comparing to more than one known original? The fact is most people notice the enamel work on a badge like this before anything else.

When we respond to ID requests like this thread it could be viewed by an outsider as a couple people deciding originallity because something doesn't look like the one in a book or in someone's collection. I would buy an argument like that if there was only one or two official makers but so far I have not found anything telling me details.

Thanks for any help or guidence,

                        Eric

This matter of Fire Crosses is a dificcult theme, and i have not seen any consensus about it.

The umlaut is there at the first example posted here, but is near the edge. I have seen a similar cross of the same maker and is pretty like DarrickĀ“s one:
