    Unknown abbreviation RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst)

    Hello,

does anyone know the abbreviation (RAD-OQB) on the car? Or does it not belong to RAD (i think the soldier is wearing a RAD-uniform). Maybe a loot vehicle?
    Thanks
    Greetings Oliver

I don't believe the person standing on the car's running board is wearing a RAD uniform -- RAD uniforms included a unit patch on the left shoulder, above the Party Brassard -- and there is no brassard present -- and I don't believe that the RAD uniform included an overseas cap.

It did. There's plenty of period pics showing RAD personnel waering an /s cap.

In volume 5 from the headgear series "Headgear of Hitler's Germany"
the wearing of the field-cap is fully explained, pages 334 through 348
for enlisted ranks, as well as officers. Even Konstantin Hierl is seen
          wearing one.

It appears to be an officer stopping to observe a very long line of French POWs marching to internment. So that places it in France in mid 1940 with leaves still on the trees. Were there RAD units in combat areas that early in the war Wim?

To be honest, I would not know as when the RAD was first in France.
Do not know if I do have that particular information, but it would not be
strange, as they often were just behind the army troops.
Maybe this is the reason of not wearing an armband, as there were
rules about that for foreign countries, as far as I know. The NSKK for
example did not wear one outside Germany!

Looks like the original license plate attachment was removed...notice the three small holes above the handle on the trunk. Also, I believe the abbreviation is RAD-00B. Looking closer at an enlargement, the second of the last three letters really isn't a Q. So it would be a temp RAD license on a requisitioned vehicle.
