Gendarmerie cap for review

Morning all

I'd appreciate your views on this cap. I'm not good with headwear, and although it looks really nice, I'm not sure if it is correct, or perhaps 'a bit too new'

The cap looks good except for the sweat band. I’ve seen that same color and style of reproductions. Check the inside of he sweatband for numbers...

Unfortunately the photos are all I have to go on as the cap is in America.

But with the edelweiss being post war, that's enough to put me off.

Just went to John Casino’s website. Interesting. There is a Werkschutz visor that look reminiscent of a schupo visor. I wasn’t aware both organizations used green pipping .And all his headgear is in “mint” condition. It might be a gamble with this item from Mr. Casino. But then it always is in this hobby. See what Dave C or Joe W says. Between the two of them, they know everything you need to know

Austrian troops wore their edelweiss in the opposite way that the Wehrmacht did. I don't have any pictures of obvious war time Austrian mountain troops but Austria continued this practice post war. Here are some post war photos of Austrian troops wearing the edelweiss and a Wehrmacht gebirgsjäger for comparison.

Despite my comment above, that was only to indicate that the edelwiess could be found worn in both ways, I doubt that a cap like the one that started this thread ever existed. The was only on Polizei mount troop formation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/18th_S...olice_Regiment .

Interesting cap, not entirely sure what to make of it just from pictures, although I am also not a fan of that white liner nor that white backing/reinforcement piece seen on the flap leading to the button hole. The cap does seem to reflect nap wear and soiling which is evident when the flaps are pulled down and the less disturbed / distressed material is visible. My inclination is that the hardware has been replaced with the addition of postwar / incorrectly attached edelweiss (proper wear is specifically called out in regulation, there have been threads about this in the past but searching is even more difficult at present). The eagle/wreath is a pattern typically found loose an in like new condition, possible FKS marked, the cockade seems a bit shinny/new, and the silver button vs. green, possible but and east replacement too. There are a few other traits I see that differentiate from the original I currently own and others I have owned that also give me pause about this one. So at this point, it would not be one for me but apparently someone else likes it, it's on hold.

This cap is in excellent condition, with no significant wear or damage. This is a positive Retro Bowl College factor in terms of its value.
