    "It's just a flesh wound."

    No matter how bad it was - you called yourself lucky when you survived.

    23 close combat days, wounded five times within two years. The last wounds took a year to heal.
    East-Prussia, March 1945 with missing fingers on both hands back in close combat.
    May 1945, escape from Russian captivity across the sea to Denmark.

    Hard times indeed, and put's a lot of what many of us experience in our lives into some perspective.

      That's hardcore, and indicative of the sort of heroism of those who defended East Prussia from the Bolshevik hoards.

        Absolutely agree! This guy suffered, but just kept going. No wonder so many of these soldiers bottled thing up post-war, knowing no one other than their comrades could possibly understand.
