Wilhelm Gustloft sunk in 1945 with a terrific loss of life well over 5000 and some say 9000 lives lost.

The USCG Egal was the Horst Wessel I believe this postcard is refering to the habour of Flensburg where the German trainging ships where based

              I agree...100%..

The Wilhelm Gustloft was sunk at the end of the war with a huge loss of life.......that is why I recognized it and bought it.

Yes...I noticed Flensburg....and I know about the USCGC Eagle....(ex: Horst Wessel) which the US confiscated/took at the end of WWII. I've been on the USCG Cutter "Eagle". Beautiful ship......and I was asking myself when I saw this postcard...."Is the ship on the postcard the "future" (USCGC Eagle)?"
