KIA grouping 95 ID and 126 ID

    hi all,
got this grouping in a while ago, it consists of several award documents, pictures and letters.

Ernst Vogt was born on the 28th of December 1911 in Krefeld, Germany. He joined the wehrmacht and was part of the 11. Kompanie, Grenadier-Regiment 280 of the 95th Infanterie-Division. With this unit he earned the ostmedaille.

On the 21st of July 1944 this regiment was disbanded and the remains were sent to divisionsgruppe 95. He ended up with the 7. Kompanie 422 Grenadier-Regiment of the 126. Infanterie-Division. While serving with this unit he earned the wound badge in silver on the 15th of December 1944. He also earned the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in silver on the 10th of January 1945.

Sad thing is he was KIA on the 25th of December 1944. He never got to wear his hard earned ISA. The award was sent to his wife together with the document.

Ernst now rests in the German war cemetary in Saldus, Latvia.

    Any opinions are welcome.

            126 Div Kurland

            DC,

Very interesting group of documents. I did a research study of Kurland and wish I would have had this information to add to it.

It conforms to the thesis of field leadership and its impact on the balance of each day in the battles. His action seems to have been in between the second and third battles. But must have had some notable impact to earn two awards.

I have the division history records so will do some further research as to where the 7th kompanie was at this time and what operations were happening. I have a second Kurland text due to be published and have some other 126th NCO's to add to the records. The division was involved in some substantial defensive successes.

Thanks for posting and will let you know if I find anything of note additionally for you.
