hi,

just picked up this SS Beitrags-Quittungskarte.

not familiar with these. i am assuming it is a ss membership dues card - would that be correct?

oh, and can anyone help in reading the surname? can't make it out myself.

anybody help me out with this?

it came with this photo, but i don't think they are connected. but any help IDing the SS unit in the pic would be great.

from what i can make out the number on the collar tab is 56 and the cuff title is 5.

nice vertical hanger on the ss dagger.

The man in the photograph is an SS-Unterscharführer. He is a member of the Allgemeine SS, more specifically of the 5th Sturm, II. Sturmbann, 56th Standarte. At the time, the 56th Standarte was headquartered in Würzburg and its 5th Sturm in Bamberg.

As you said, the card is indeed proof of payment for membership dues in the SS. Sorry, I'm having a very hard time making out the man's surname. It does not appear to be connected to the photo, as it's not for the same unit (it says 9th Sturm, 88th Standarte on the obverse, but the stamps on the reverse are for the 29th Standarte).

I did notice the stamps for the 29th standarte on the rear. Would he have transferred to another standarte??

My best guess at the family name is HAUNZ but really not sure.

It would seem that way, possibly after moving his place of residence; it should be noted that the two Standarten were very far away from one another: The 88th was in North Germany (HQ at Bremen) and the 29th in Bavaria (HQ at Munich, then Augsburg and finally Lindau).
