    Gebirgsjaeger regiment 98 DKiG group.

2018 was extremely succesfull year for me - the most succesfull in my collecting practice. Since one of my primary collecting areas is 1.Gebirgsjaeger division I was very lucky to get a full group with all documents and 2(!) Soldbuch on DKiG and close combat clasp in silver winner from Gebirgsjaeger regiment 98- Wilhelm Wineberger.

His DKiG VB and BU. An interesting letter which was send to his home with DKiG BU - he recieved BU one year later he was awarded with it. Interesting issue - award date in his DKiG VB&BU differs from the date in his Soldbuch.

After I got that group I wondered if there can be anythig else to add to it? It seemed to be totaly complete and perfect......
                          BUT.....

There is always a way to make a full DKiG group more full and perfect - to find a DKiG which belonged to the soldier!
After I purchased this group I just decided to google the name - and I was suprised to find an old thread here on WAF with his DKiG! I contacted the owner and he was kind to sell it to me. Thanks to him again!
If we look at Wineberger's war time photo we can see that his DKiG was cracked at war time (maybe when he was wounded? - judging by place where the pin was repaired I find this theory more or less realistic)
So here what else I have:
                            Thanks for attention!

Great grouping, much nicer than to a high ranking officer in my opinion. These career NCOs, those that survived, were the backbone of the army.
