    Promotion Document

Just wondered if anybody would know who this may be signed by and is it authentic? I would presume a head party official? The seller it's a document from a Gauamtsleiter of Gau Koblenz/Trier to the Oberfinanzpraesidenten in Koln discussing the 'party loyalty' of a member and he didn't get the promotion.

I see nothing wrong with it.

It is indeed the political evaluation of a fiscal official named Emil Müller on the occasion of his proposed promotion from Obersteuerinspektor to Steueramtmann.

(Back then, it was routine procedure for civil service agencies to request such evaluations from the respective party authorities prior to hiring or promoting personnel.)

According to the letter, Müller had been neutral towards the Nazis prior to their seizing power and then initially displayed a bit of a wait-and-see-attitude towards the new regime. He didn't join the party, but did participate in public rallies, made donations etc. In 1934, he and his wife finally joined the NSV, in which he was now active.

All in all, his political reliability was not doubted as such, but it was suggested that one of his colleagues, Obersteuerinspektor Christoph Kelbsch - an "old fighter" and eager Nazi activist - be promoted to the vacant position instead.

The letter was written by the head of the personnel office of Gau Koblenz-Trier. Sorry, I can't read the signature.

The Gauamtsleiter of Gau Koblenz/Trier at this time was Wilhelm Koenig?

No, but it's not signed by the Gauamtsleiter. Look to the left of the date. It is written by the Gaupersonalamtsleiter. That is why he signs himself as Gauamtsleiter--Koenig was the Gau leader for that department in July 1937, and the signature reads "Koenig".
