Cholm Group

Recently I bought a small Cholm related grouping.
One of the units trapped in the Colm pocket was Grenadier Regiment 416.
This man was awarded the Infanterie Sturm Abzeichen in Bronze for being involved in the Cholm battles but he wasn’t awarded the Cholm shield.
Does anybody has more insight in the Cholm battles?

Only elements of Stab I Btl, 1,2,3,4,9,10 & 12 Kompanien were involved inside the pocket. The rest were on the outside trying to lift the siege which would include your man which is why he isn't entitled to the Cholmschild.
On the 5th May 1942 Inf.Rgt 416 on the outside of the pocket launched an attack in order to clear the southern bank of the Lovat, thrust through to Medovo-West and make contact with the Cholm Pocket via the Hairpin Curve.
