Yes, Dr. Scheel was promoted to Obergruppenführer on August 1, 1944.

To be pedantic, Scheel was promoted to SS-Obergruppenführer on 30 July 1944, effective 1 August 1944. His final promotion was to SS-Obergruppenführer und General der Polizei on 4 August 1944.

Thanks for adding that detail, Max. I found the date of 1.8.44 in Scheel's listing in the DAL of 9.11.44 and accepted it at face value.
