Estand award document - 22. Police Regiment

    Hi guys,
This EK2 award document is currently posted on the estand for sale, and I just wanted to ask your opinions about it. It's dated December 1944, but I believe the 22. Police Regiment was destroyed in Belarus after being transferred there in July '44?

I'm not saying it's a fake, but just trying to find out if the dates etc. make sense?

    Thanks for any help.

It’s a Wehrkreis issued EK2 award for a severe wound. Guys who received the Silver Wound Badge or higher, were automatically entitled to an EK2 if they had not already been awarded one. In this case, his local Wehrkreis processed the award, which was per regulations. Ideally, there would also be a Wound Badge document out there too; likely issued by a hospital well behind the lines that shows rhe actual date of his wound. So, in this case, he was likely severely wounded when his unit was destroyed, or even in fighting before then. It’s all spelled out in my book.

        As you said Brian
Wound Badge in Black document to this guy, sold a couple of years ago by eMedals.
Single document, not part of a group.

          Excellent!

And this is a Wound Badge in Black award which would not make him eligible for that schwerverwundete EK from the Wehrkreis (an EK2 could come from his unit for a WBiB but that's another story). So, I'd be willing to bet (especially as these documents were broken up and sold separately on the open market) that there is also a Silver Wound Badge document out there processed by that or a different hospital that is essentially an "upgrade". It would have a later date, but also include the original wound date. It's likely that his initial wound worsened - perhaps he had a leg injury and ultimately lost his leg - and the higher grade award was made.
