Searching for information on Kriegsberichter Otto Vieth ?

    hi Guys

Im Searching for Information about Luftwaffe Photographer ( PK Kriegsberichter )
    Otto Vieth ?

Otto Vieth was a reporter and photographer for Der Adler until middle 1943.
He was stationed in Italy (rome area) and then Russian Front (area Stalingrad)
(( im note sure which came first...)

This is the very little information I could find.

    Otto Vieth (PK Eins.Kp.Lw.z.b.V)

This cover image Otto Vieth did....
    Der Adler N°20 06-10-1942

    He also took this shot:
    Der Adler August 1942

I was very lucky last week to acquire a world class collection of 160+ private military color slides that he took for himself and also his work for Der Adler.

This is a portrait of Otto Vieth from my color slides:

Any additional information would be fantastic ! Thank you.

Congrats on acquiring the Otto Vieth color slide collection from his time as a PK photographer.

He was indeed assigned to the PK Einsatz Kompanie Luftwaffe z.b.V (zur besonderen Verwendung, for special use) the entire time working almost exclusively for Der Adler.

He was a senior photographer with talent and experience and as you can see his photos were often selected for the cover shot of the magazine. His photo reports took him to North Africa, the Eastern Front, Italy, France, and also Germany.

If you pay a visit to the Bundesachive Bildarchiv in Koblenz you will find they have in their collection quite a few original B+W films from him dating well into the summer of 1944. You can see some of his images on their website. There may also be some his films archived in the ECPAD in Paris as well. You would have to contact them to confirm this.

Thank you Remy !! for the additional information.
He was indeed a very talented photographer. From the 165 color slides I purchased, roughly 60% are eastern front and 40% Italy.

The slides were found by a repair man in a old abandoned warehous in West Germany a few years ago. Just sitting there in a box on the top shelf... collecting dust..
Thankfully the slides were not damaged with rain water or moisture...

Im busy scanning the slides at the moment.
Should be adding a few onto pixpast.com tonight or tomorrow

        Thank you.
        Ian

ps. little extra info.. he was married ! he has a wedding ring on in every shot.

I had known that I own an album from this KB Kompanie in my archive.

Somehow I could not find it for a few weeks...
              Somehow it showed up today...

The album states that as of June 1942, it was called

              LW.Kriegsberichterkompanie (mot.) z.b.V.

Very interesting to see the unit produced album Akira!

Does the album list the names of the bildberichter's in this KB unit?
Can you share with us a few pages from the album? I'm curious to see
if it's a printed book or if it has actual photo prints glued to a page.

wow fantastic album Akira ! Thank you for digging it out of your archive !

If there is any photos showing other photographers of this unit, i would love to see that. there are other color slides from this collection showing other unnamed kriegsberichter and it would be very cool to add some names to them.
                  Also locations if possible.

                  Thank you.

As is often the case with PK and recce flight units, the album is entirely consisted of photo papers. It seems to have been distributed on the Xmas day 1943, but it also has a page of April 1944 when the members were decorated with KVKs.

Regarding the personal names, only the names of the deceased is included (21).

here is a later shot of Otto Vieth. Im guessing so 1943 eastern front..

he has also upgraded himself from sports badge to Luftwaffe Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge.
