It looks like Markus but I can not find any info on him at the moment.


His unit is Ski Nachrichten Abteilung 152 of 1 Skijäger Brigade/Division.

Does it mean that the document award of the Ostmedaille has beeen given to that man one or two years later?

Yes.....that was quite normal

The award is for the winter of 1941/42 (15 November 1941-15 April 1942) and he received it three months later in July 42.

The date of 25th July 1942 reflects when the award was granted to qualifying unit members (at that time the 52 Inf.Div. ) in orders. The actual award was much later, sometime in 1944, as Nachr.Abt.152 only became part of the 1 Skijäger Brigade from nov.43 onwards.

This delay of up to 2 years or more in awarding the Ostmedaille is quite common and normal for soldiers who had move units or units that had been moved around.

The order would have been published by division or higher, stating the qualifying criteria. This is the date you see on the award doc. sub-units would then be responsible for checking which unit members qualified. Soldiers who had been posted away, were injured etc. often fell through the net. A soldier who had been transferred and missed out could apply for the award if he could produce the necessary paperwork.

Yes, I have seen an award document for the Afrika CT dated March 1945.
