Photo album - Einsatzgruppe C

Hi guys!
I bought this photo album at a private garage sale. After some research I found out that it should have belonged to a member of an auxiliary troop of EINSATZGRUPPE C / Sondergruppe 4.

The photos describe the way from poland to lemberg and throw the ukraine.

I have never seen an Einsatzgruppe photoalbum before, you???

Opinions are welcome.

is there any clear reference to the Sonderkommando 4b in the pictures that you were able to identify (SS ranks, SS truck plates) ?

How many pictures are included in the album ?
Do we see mainly trucks ?

You have to be careful witht he terms 'Sonderkommando' and 'Einsatzgruppen' those terms where widely used in this case it looks like a General Transport Company riased for Barborossa.

No relation to the notrouirs death units me thinks.

Thanks for the replys. I have read in several books that in these named cities several massacres caused by einsatzgruppe c happend and the pictures in the album are chronological to these incidents. There are also some photos with groups of killed civilians which I won't post for reasons of piety.

Hi,

Einsatzgruppen were heading in the same direction as... the whole invasion armies in the east. Therefore you will see most units, including administrative and logistical units follow the same cities.
For example i worked on an NSKK unit that followed a trail of cities also visited by the Einsatzgruppe B.

The pictures you provided do not show any SS markings, and the soldiers pictured are more probably RAD or NSKK ones from an oil logistical unit.
Their age (for drivers) is also imo too old to be in any Sipo-SD/SS units.

"Einsatz" was used for various types of operations.

The book "Arbeitsmänner zwischen Bug und Volga" is presented as "Erlebnisberichte und Bilder vom Einsatz des jüngsten Jahrganges an der Ostfront".

Hi,

the book you posted a link of is wrongly implying that "all NSKK units" participated actively in the Holocaust, which is plain wrong !
This is like saying : "Shokakola boxes were given to the Einsatzgruppen so it participated in the Holocaust".
NSKK units were supplying all types of units, and Einsatzgruppen were only a few thousand of killers in a mass of millions of other soldiers (some were killers too and participated in the Holocaust).
Also the book is dealing with a special unit that was used by the VoMi.

The best book on the Holocaust in White Russia ("Kalkulierte Morde" of Christian Gerlach) only list very few confirmed "Aktionen" in which NSKK units actively participated.

The book "Arbeitsmänner" is only showing young members from the RAD, usually wearing their RAD patches. It will not be very interesting for you imo.
You will not learn a lot from it.

I think that the best would be to try to identify the unit first, to see what it did during the war.
