    RARE GrossDeutschland Panzer Rgt Grouping

This is the highlight of my collection and wanted to share with everyone. Sadly I also am forced to sell it to pay for a heat-pump so will be listing on Estand at some point, no idea what to ask. I am thinking it's value should be in the $1500 range but please correct if I am off base.

This is a typical sad story that many German parents dealt with, a young son being called to the flag, and never coming home again. Helmut fell during fierce and overwhelming Russian attacks that occurred right after Kursk was halted. The WP just says died in hospital, no other details given. He was awarded the EK2 for Kursk, and it was send to his family after his death.

The group has a mint WP, Large, very rare portrait photo, pab and ek award docs, signed by Possel and Hornlein, death memorial from company he worked for, and letters sending items home to parents. I also have a notebook in which he wrote down panzer school related lessons.

    Please enjoy:

Looks like a nice set (although GD is far from rare) but I would say that $1500 is waaaay too much for it. The Hoernlein signature on the EK citation is the stamped version and not hand signed.

What a wonderful group, and the family portrait makes it especially attractive. It gives it an even greater human connection than some other groups. That said, I agree with Hucks. It’s an attractive unit, but not particularly rare. I think $1,500 is way above market value.

Good luck with the heat pump. I hope you can figure out a way to keep this great group in your collection.

Brian and Hucks are correct. Very nice Group, if it was SB and not WP, more chance to get your estimated price. GD is often beloved but it was a HUGE Unit, reconstructed each time she suffered heavy Losses. If you get 1000, that would be already an excellent sale, I estimate it aprox 750 euros on the european Market.

One interesting detail : it seems me he is wearing Officer-Candidates Stripes on his shoulder Boards. Any mention in the WP if he attended a School ?? Wünsdorf for an Example ??

Thanks guys, I was basing price on what I have seen GD documents sell for. I never noticed the Hornlein sig was stamped. So it appears a good value would be $900 to $1000?
