Before my ebay auction of the Kriegsmarine battleship Gneisenau album finishing next Sunday 11th of Feb (item number 192442190632), I want to introduce it on here. The album itself is from the 60's or 70's and it is suspected that the sailor had started to make one up earlier as some of the photos were glued in somewhere else. Then he must have reviewed and put them all in this later album.
Anyway, about 129 photos, while 50 of them are superb shots from the "Operation Berlin", which Gneisenau carried out with here sister Scharnhorst. The 50 photos are covering from leaving Norway to the arrival of Brest. Unique shots from stopping/arresting/sinking ships, their crews coming alongside in life boats, taking stores from Tanker Uckermark and many more. The album has nearly no private images, which is very unusual but probably the way when an old sailor thinks back to his "happy" days in the Navy.
Wonderful album.
